New and recurring problems plague the Department of Veterans Affairs

The Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General recently issued 20 recommendations of improvement for one zone of VA facilities alone. The reports site deficiencies ranging from lung cancer screening to security requirements for veterans’ patient data.


These findings serves as a reminder that the federal agency that cares for millions of military veterans still suffers from problems, seven years after an Obama-era scandal revealed significant medical negligence in VA facilities.

Among the list of issues reported were failure to treat patients with cancer diagnoses, inadequate oversight of the Veterans Health Administration’s home oxygen program, surgical malpractice, and breaches in veterans’ patient data security.
